Biography Article

Schani undertook his initial dance training at Northern School of Contemporary Dance and Bretton Hall College University. His continued professional development includes training with artists including CandoCo, Blue Eyed Soul, Wolfgang Stange, Jabadao, Freedon in Dance and Anjali, covering areas of practice from movement play, dance on film and use of Soundbeam, to Duty of Care, project management, child protection and mentoring young people. He has also undertaken shadowing opportunites with Louise Katerega, Salamanda Tandem, Louise Collinson, Liz Clarke and Annie Delin.

Schani is a member of the management committee for Random Line Dance Company (Mansfield) and works, in a voluntary capacity, as a Mentor for So...! Dance Company (Northampton), for whom he has also choreographed a dance piece and devised an accompanying outreach workshop.

As an independant dance artist based in the East Midlands, Schani has built up a portfolio including long-term developmental work and shorter term or 'one-off' contracts. He has worked as an artist and facilitator with many community groups within both open and discreet settings: mental health, dementia care, older people, disabled people and integrated community groups. He has also undertaken project management and project support work for FASED Quality Forum in Nottingham, Dudley Dance Consortium, WEA/Surestar in Derby, the Second Bite project in Rotherham and the Alternative Activities Centre for people with learning disabilities in Derby.
